Muscle Types - 3

There is a total of three types of muscle tissues that make up all of our bodily muscles. They are skeletal muscles, cardiac muscles and smooth muscles. Each muscle has similar properties it is made of but poses different functions.

Skeletal Muscles

Skeletal muscles are the muscles that connect to our bones and aid in our body's movement and structure. These muscles are categorized as voluntary, which means that we control how and when they move.

Examples of voluntary Skeletal muscles are ...

1. walking

2. running

3. stretching

Cardiac Muscle

The function of cardiac muscle is to keep your heart pumping blood for circulation. Cardiac muscles are in charge of the contractions of your heart, and it is known as an involuntary movement.

Involuntary movement means that we cannot control the movement, but rather our body needs to do this for our survival.

Smooth Muscle

Smooth muscles can be found all over our body and they aid in multiple automatic functions of the body. Functions such as digestion, blood and lymph vessels and our airway. These functions perform without us even thinking about it which is essential to our daily survival.
