Tissue Properties

Tissue properties include excitability, extensibility, elasticity, and hypertrophy. Each property contributing to the development and function of tissue.

Excitability

Excitability is the activation of muscle nerves, which creates an action potential.

Examples include:

1. a nerve signal sending a stimulus to activate the movement of a certain muscle.

Extensibility

Extensibility is the stretching of muscles.

Example:

1. Provides flexibility to stretch

Elasticity

Elasticity is the recoiling of muscles from a stretched state back to their resting state.

Hypertrophy

Hypertrophy is an increased mass and bulk in the muscle. It is the growth of muscle fibers.

Atrophy

Atrophy is a decrease in the muscle tissue.

Often as we age our muscles begin to deteriorate and weaken.
